The purpose of KFIA is to promote the development of food industry and the improvement of food sanitation, thus to contribute to the profit among food manufacturing industries and the enhancement of the health of the people

1960

  • Oct. 1969 Establishes KFIA as a public corporation

1980

  • May. 1985 Completes the KFIA head office building
  • May. 1986 Converts KFIA into a legal entity in accordance with the Food Sanitation Act
  • Jul. 1986 Founds its research arm, KAFRI, as a subsidiary
  • Apr. 1987 Is designated as a food hygiene inspection agency

1990

  • Aug. 1995 Designated as training center on food, hygiene
  • Jan. 1997 Designated as preliminary evaluation, agency for food commercials
  • Feb. 1997 Designated as inspection agency for, drinking water
  • Feb. 1997 Designated as inspection agency for, sanitary goods
  • Feb. 1999 Designated as inspection agency for, food products
  • Apr. 1999 Designated as inspection agency for, imported medicinal herbs

2000

  • May. 2000 Designated as training center for foods
  • May. 2000 Designated as inspection agency for, processed livestock products
  • May. 2001 Launches KAFRI's Busan Branch office
  • Jan. 2002 Busan Branch is designated as a food hygiene inspection agency
  • Jul. 2002 Opens the Food Product Liability Consulting Center
  • Mar. 2003 Designated as inspection agency for cosmetics
  • Sep. 2005 Designated as inspection agency for GMO products
  • Dec. 2009 Designated as inspection agency for irradiated foods

2010

  • Sep. 2010 Designated as an education institution for food hygiene inspection
  • Dec. 2010 Opened Qingdao Korea-China Food Technology Research Co., Ltd.
  • Feb. 2011 Designated as an educational institution for livestock hygiene inspection
  • Mar. 2011 Designated as an educational institution for HACCP
  • Aug. 2011 Designated as a foreign inspectional institution for China Qingdao Food Research Institute
  • Nov. 2011 Signed a memorandum of understanding for co-hosting the FI Korea.
  • Jul. 2012 Organizing 「FI Korea」, the first professional food ingredients & additives exhibition.
